A REVIEW of YOUTH STUDIES in the FIELD of SOCIOLOGY in TURKEY 

There is a broad literature on youth produced from various disciplines in Turkey. The reason of this quantitative increase is the availability of studies conducted in different disciplines in the matter of youth.  Youth is generally linked with chronological age, however, it is suggested that this age range has become different today. Previously, 15-24 age range was valid, but today, 15-29 age range is the one generally approved by UN, EU and Turkey. However, 30-34 age range is used in the recent studies and this age range is also defined as youth because of problems such as long education period, problems in finding a job and precariat. Surely, the period of youth is insufficient when it is defined according to chronological age and particularly it is seen that youth category includes a generation gap as a result of advancement of recent digital Technologies. Chronological age is necessary for social, economic and political arrangements in order to ensure the resolution of conflicts and the establishment of harmony in a society, however, the research in this field is essential since there are different understandings and perceptions in the frame of culture, meaning and moral among youth.

After this brief explanation, I will discuss the studies in the field of youth in Turkey under two sub-titles in the presentation. First, the thesis at graduate level in the field of Sociology, ant the second, the sociologically research conducted by certain organizations in Turkey. The thesis, found at National Thesis center and conducted between 1950 and 2019, were reviewed under the youth title and approximately more than 200 thesis studies were determined. The subjects of these thesis studies were reviewed for categorical analysis units and the research, formed of collection studies on youth conducted by universities and companies, were analyzed and a general sociological evaluation was made. The recommendations based on weak and strong aspects are presented in order to solve the related problems.
